About The Aztez Project
Hi! If you're here now it's because you've found the dev blog, which I (Ben Ruiz) use to expose my thought process, development intent, and share interactive unity content. Here's what you need to know about the game itself:
- It is a game currently in development.
- It is set for an early 2013 release on Steam for PC and Mac.
- It is a hybrid of two distinct game types: sidescrolling real-time beat-em-up gameplay and turn-based economic/unit strategy gameplay.
- It is set in the world of the Aztecs and is highly stylized.
- It is going to have a deep and meaningful combat system.
- It is being made in Unity by Ben Ruiz (art and design) and Matthew Wegner (code and design), both formerly of Flashbang Studios.
- This isn't set in stone, but we'd like to sell it for 10 dollars, despite our intent to have a finished product that is worth much more than 10 dollars.
My (Ben's) personal goals:
- Very robust set of mechanics that provide a fun mix-up of melee and distance combat.
- Incredible sensation of power with concentrated visual charm. Will push the very limits of combat effects.
- Crowds of fun and simple enemies to control. Easy, free flowing mass destruction will provide a distinct sense of dominance.
- A meaningful, enjoyable, and legitimately replayable game structure.
- A high skill ceiling for those who are interested, but with very satisfying combat extant at the lower levels.
- Lots of fun quirks and weird mechanics to discover. Lots of strange loopholes to exploit and rules to break.
- Fun and accessible secondary systems in place to enhance the combat and expand the creative landscape.
- NO BULLSHIT: no invasive quick time events, boring cutscenes, meaningless plot, orĀ mechanics you must unlock! All of the fun will be available in its entirety from the start.
Open communication with those that care is encouraged and deeply appreciated, so we would love to answer your questions and hear your feedback.
